If you’ve been out of the dating game for a while, you might be kind of anxious heading back into it. The fact of the matter is that nothing much has changed except your perception, which can be either a good or a bad thing. Obviously your personality and physical appearance are going to be huge deciding factors when you’re looking to find women to date, but there are other things you need to consider as well. One of these is your wardrobe, which can actually have a huge impact on how women react to you. If you’re not sure how your clothes factor in regards to dating, just keep reading.
Your Clothes Represent Your Age
There’s a lot to be said about the type of clothes you wear. For some people, what they wear can influence how old other people think they are. For example, if you’re running around in ripped jeans and hair metal band T-shirts, people are going to assume you grew up in the 80’s and decided to stay there. On the other hand, if you favor loafers, khakis, and cardigans, people are going to think you’re a young looking 70 year old. You need to dress appropriate to your age if you want people to get the right idea about you.
Too Much Comfort Isn’t Always Good
There’s nothing wrong with dressing for comfort, but there is such a thing as taking it way too far. For example, meeting up with a woman for a first date while wearing sweatpants and a tank top is going to make her think you’re incredibly lazy and not really worried about appearances. And while it’s great to be confident, you do need to pay a little more attention to how you look. This isn’t to say that you need to break out the three piece suit for a quick dinner at a restaurant, but you should at least put some effort into making it look like you care at least a little about your appearance.
How You Look Gives an Impression
It’s obvious that your appearance is going to give her a first impression, but it’s the kind of impression that really matters. If you show up for a date in dirty, wrinkly clothes and a neckbeard, she’s going to (correctly) think that you’re not big on personal hygiene or keeping up with laundry. On the other hand, if you show up in nice jeans, a sport coat, and you’re clean shaven, she’s going to know that you don’t mind putting in the effort to look nice just to impress her. That’s exactly what you’re going for, because she’s going to be more inclined to want to get to know you.
Clothes Mirror Your Financial Status
We can all pretend that money doesn’t matter when it comes to dating, but in a lot of ways it does. How you dress can notify a woman right away as to your financial status. For example, if you’re too broke or cheap to afford new jeans, you’ll probably be wearing the same pair from eight years ago that are really faded and starting to fray. This will probably serve as a warning bell to her and she might just pass you over in search of someone with a little more financial security.
