There’s this unwritten rule that when it comes to bars all that’s going on is women fending off men that want to sleep with them. While this definitely is true often, it’s not always the case. There are bar flies, or women who frequent bars in hopes of getting men to buy them some drinks or take them home for the night. Bar flies are named so because they swarm and they’re pesky. When you find yourself the center of their attention, you have to ditch her fast. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to break free from her attentions. It doesn’t take too much, but it does take some skill if you want to come out a gentleman in the long run.

Be Polite

You might be wondering why you have to care whether or not you’re nice to her if you don’t want her attention. Bars are small, even in bigger cities you’ll find that women all make friends with each other and if you tell of the fly then you’re going to risk her telling every woman there that you’re a jerk. Instead be polite. Since this woman probably has been drinking, be overly polite. Tell her that you’re flattered by the attention but you’re just not interested. Don’t react beyond that. She might cry or yell at you, but keep a straight face and a low voice. The last thing you want is an argument. Tell the bartender if she’s getting out of hand, but don’t use lies to get her to go away. If you’re saying you have a girlfriend at home and she sees you hitting on other women then she’s going to ruin that for you too. Be honest, be polite, and utilize bartenders to avoid the drama.

Pass Her Off

Having a friend who is either willing to take one for the team or honestly just wants to get laid that night is a valuable asset in the bar. In the event that a fly has set her sights on you, you can always pass her off to him. He can make his moves and thank you later or just play a decoy while you slip off. When she gets passed to him, she’ll get the idea that you’re not into it and peter off since her interest wasn’t with him in the first place. Hopefully they end up pairing up and you help a friend get lucky.

Leave the Bar

If she’s seriously bothering you and ruining your night then just leave the bar. There are other places that you can go to drink and pickup women. This should be used as a last result, since most people can either take a hint or understand that you’re not into it. When you leave the bar, don’t be afraid to let her know. She may otherwise think that you’re stringing her along in some weird foreplay and follow you. A simple, “You’re making me leave this place” will do.
